A circle whispering dot (2019)
Performance 30 mins
With Patricia Langa, Sonya Frances Cullingford and Legion Seven
As verbal communication is emptied out of meaning through politics and mass media we’re turning elsewhere for meaning.
How can we free ourselves from set definitions enforced by narrative power structures?
How can we use other forms of communication, such as voice, abstract words, tone, gesture, movement, rhythm, resonance and repetition in order to create meaning?
The new performance examines the relationship between voice, gesture and social norms. Gesture, voice and language contribute to an embodied vocabulary through which the three performers navigate fragmentary exchanges, reflecting on the edges of subjectivity, inner landscapes and representation, using sound and movement as a catalyst for transforming expression. And create alternative spaces, away from the power relations and politics that are often involved in it and thus empowering the individual.
